- Writing Web pages is an art — a minor one, like flower arranging or basket-weaving, but still an art. (How good are your baskets?)
  - The single best thing on it I've read is Philip Greenspun's book Phil and Alex's Guide to Web Publishing, formerly How to Be a Web Whore Just Like Me. (I'd follow more of his advice, but I'm lazy.)
  - One of the best observations Greenspun makes is that "the more HTML you know, the uglier and harder to use your site is likely to be"; so you really shouldn't read any more about HTML than what's in How to Write HTML Files, which limit themselves to the most basic formalities. (The list of ISO Latin 1 Entities in HTML is useful if you want those outlandish letters and accents, or ampersands.)
  - The infallible Jutta Degener sets an excellent example in What Is Good Hypertext Writing? (Jutta's HTML is no TML is also recommended.)
