The Name of the Rose is best taken straight, and I'm not sure that Foucault's Pendulum should be taken at all. The Island of the Day Before is better than Foucault, but the blurbs on my paperback copy were so over-blown as to be embarrassing. I ought to try reading the semiotic stuff again, but I'm so skeptical of the whole semiotic program that it hardly seems worth it.
