The workers at Borders Bookstore No. 1, just up the street here in Ann Arbor, are on strike effective Saturday morning. The union is asking supporters to boycott Borders, as well as its corporate partners, Waldenbooks and Amazon. This is a good opportunity to point out that Powell's is a union shop. (Yes, yes, I know, I have all those buy-from-Amazon links; I'll fix them as soon as the opportunity presents itself.)
Update, 10 Nov. 2003: Julianne Shepherd writes to inform me that the employees at Powell's are currently working without a contract; their union local could use some expressions of support, too.
