Gen. Wesley Clark (USA, ret.), writes frankly and sensibly about "America's Virtual Empire", in the November Washington Monthly. This was drawn from his new book, which is favorably reviewed by Frances Fitzgerald in The Nation --- a writer and a venue not noted for cutting American generals much slack. She claims he actually wrote it himself; if so he's very smart, and his views are sound. (See also here.) Has it really been less than three years since there was someone intelligent and clueful in the White House? (This post does not constitute a political endorsement.)
