Millennium, Modernity and Shrillness

Egged on by Julie, I am sitting in on the very shrill Juan Cole's seminar on "millenarian movements and modernity". She didn't exactly have to twist my arm. I was a little apprehensive about participating in a graduate history class, since my last humanities course was an intro. to classical mythology, eleven years ago (an age of the world before Classics 28 looked like this). So far, however, I haven't been unmasked, and am having a blast... except when Cole reminds us that, between Muqtada al-Sadr and Left Behind, the subject is altogether too topical. In the (staggeringly unlikely) event you care, the progress of the course will probably be reflected in my notebook on millenarianism.
